Abstract

The present study aims to analyze the role of nursing in the care of newborns with congenital heart disease, emphasizing the importance of humanized care, family communication, and professional qualification in the face of the clinical complexity involved. This bibliographic and descriptive research revealed that nurses play a central role within the multidisciplinary team, acting as mediators between technical knowledge and emotional support. The review of works by Arruda and Souza (2025), Fernandes et al. (2025), Ramos (2010), Lima, Silva and Siqueira (2018), Farias, Resner and Silva (2019), Batista et al. (2005), and Souza et al. (2021) showed that humanized care strengthens the bond between the team and the family, reduces caregivers’ anxiety, and promotes neonatal recovery. However, the study also identified significant challenges such as the lack of specific training, work overload, and the absence of standardized protocols in neonatal units. The findings highlight that nursing practice requires continuous technical and emotional development, with the Nursing Care Systematization serving as an essential tool for standardization and patient safety. Furthermore, interdisciplinarity and continuing education emerge as key strategies for professional improvement and quality care. It is concluded that nursing performance, guided by empathy, scientific knowledge, and effective communication, is decisive for the well-being of newborns with congenital heart disease and for strengthening family trust.
